Shade Color Reference

Shade Fabric Color Reference

The material used for sunshades is commonly referred to as shade fabric or solar fabric. It is typically translucent, maintaining indoor light levels while providing shading and heat insulation. Effective shade design not only contributes to energy savings for air conditioning cooling in buildings and rooms and provides comfortable lighting but also enhances indoor and outdoor aesthetic appeal. Below, Shanghai Bokal editors introduce some key knowledge about shade fabrics for sunshades to assist customers in their selection.

Shade Fabric Color and Light Control:

Dark-colored fabrics offer better outward visibility, allowing for a clearer view of the outside scenery. For outdoor shading, dark fabrics are undoubtedly a superior choice. Compared to light-colored fabrics, using dark fabrics can save about 20% in energy consumption because they absorb most of the solar heat energy, trapping or re-emitting it outdoors without causing light pollution.

Light-colored fabrics are more suitable for indoor use. They effectively reflect heat energy. A small portion of unreflected radiation may enter through the fabric's open weave, making light-colored fabrics more energy-efficient when used indoors.

Dual-color solar fabrics combine the advantages of both. They can be manufactured with one light side and one dark side, decorating the indoor space while effectively controlling solar exposure, without compromising on good energy-saving performance.

Shade Configuration Environment:
Different room environments dictate different shade choices. Solar shades can be used alone or in combination with other curtains. In hotel lobbies, living rooms, and office buildings, the minimalist style of standalone shades is often suitable. For bedrooms or highly personalized small spaces, combining solar shades with other curtains is often more appropriate.

Fabric Openness Percentage and Light Control:

1%-3% openness: Fabrics in this range offer significant resistance to heat gain from solar radiation and control strong light effectively, but outward visibility is somewhat reduced.

5%-10% openness: This range is widely applicable. In general shading projects, it provides a balance between controlling solar radiation and maintaining a good degree of outward visibility.

Above 10% openness: The control of thermal radiation (shading effect) is generally moderate, but these fabrics offer better transparency, creating a greater sense of openness and clearer views from indoors.
